A national symposium on the achievements made by leader Kim Jong Il in building a Juche-based revolutionary party took place at the People’s Palace of Culture in Pyongyang.
It was attended by Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, officials from Party and government organs and public organizations in Pyongyang and those from Party cadre-training institutions, scientific and educational sectors, the press, cultural and arts circles as well as those working in the management of revolutionary relics.
The speakers said in the past 40 years Kim Jong Il led the WPK with his unusual political caliber and stressed the need to add glory to the exploits performed by Kim Jong Il in building up the Party and effect a fresh turn in Party work in line with the requirements of the Songun era.
Meanwhile, a symposium of Party cadre-training sectors was held at Kim Il Sung Higher Party School.
The Ministry of the People's Armed Forces sponsored a similar symposium.
A Kimjongilia Show was opened on June 17 in Pyongyang.
The opening ceremony was held at the Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Exhibition Hall.
Premier Pak Pong Ju, Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People’s Assembly and other senior Party and government officials attended it together with Pyongyang citizens.
On display were over 15,000 Kimjongilias presented by 74 institutions including the Cabinet commission and ministries, national agencies and military organs.
The Merited State Chorus of the Korean People’s Army gave a performance on June 14 at the People’s Palace of Culture in Pyongyang as part of June 19 celebrations.
The performance of the KPA Merited State Chorus fully demonstrated the conviction and indomitable stamina of the Korean army and people who are opening up an age of the highest national prosperity upholding the ideology and leadership of the WPK.
Some 2,000 youth league officials from across the country made a march to the birthplace of leader Kim Jong Il at the secret camp in Mt. Paektu and held an oath-taking meeting at the summit of Mt. Paektu.
Another expedition team of women’s union officials and members visited the revolutionary battle sites in the Mt. Paektu area and held an oath-taking meeting at the secret camp in Mt. Paektu.
A national fine art show was opened in Pyongyang.
On display were some 50 pieces of paintings showing the great exploits President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il performed for the WPK building, the single-hearted unity between army and people and socialist construction. A fine art exhibition of the Ministry of the People’s Armed Forces was also opened.
The workers, students and farmers held meetings respectively to celebrate the event at the plaza in front of the Monument to Party Founding, in front of the statue of President Kim Il Sung at Kim Il Sung University and in Anju City, South Phyongan Province.
Meanwhile, there was a university students’ oratorical contest.
The Ministry of the People’s Armed Forces and the Ministry of Foreign Trade hosted film shows respectively.
The Russian embassy staff and diplomatic envoys and embassy staff of Asian nations visited the revolutionary museum of Kim Il Sung University, the economic and trade councillors’ corps the Jangsan revolutionary site, embassy officials in charge of culture and friendship the revolutionary museum of the Ministry of Culture and European diplomatic envoys and diplomats the Grand People’s Study House.
A book and photo exhibition and film show were given for foreign students.
The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issued souvenir stamps (a miniature sheet, three sheetlets and a stamp) to mark the June 19 event.
